How to Activate Shipduo Checkout Rates on Your Shopify Shipping Profile
⚠️ Before you start — plan requirement: This feature is available on Shopify Grow (annual), Advanced, and Shopify Plus plans. If you're not on one of these plans, please contact Shopify to enable it for you before you begin this setup.
To show live Shipduo rates to your customers at checkout, you add Shipduo as a shipping rate in your Shopify shipping profile. The rate's own settings don't really matter — the important part is configuring the backup rate.
Step 1: Open Shipping and Delivery
- In your Shopify Admin, go to Settings → Shipping and delivery.
- Find the shipping profile and the shipping zone (for example, North America / United States) where you want Shipduo rates to appear.
Step 2: Add Shipduo as a Shipping Rate
- In the shipping zone, click Add shipping option.
- Choose to add a carrier / app rate, then select ShipDuo (Rates provided by app).
- The specific settings on this rate aren't important — just add it and save.
Once added, you'll see ShipDuo (Rates provided by app) listed in the zone with a Calculated label.
Step 3: Set the Backup Rate (Important)
This is the step that matters. The backup rate is what customers see if third-party rates can't be displayed for any reason — so it's important to set it.
- On the ShipDuo rate, click the "..." (more options) menu.
- Select Edit backup rate.
- Choose your backup rate option:
- Use Shopify default backup rates (recommended) — calculated in real time from factors like location, carrier rates, order value, and weight.
- Define custom backup rates by order value
- Define custom backup rates by item weight
- Click Done.
💡 Tip: For more on how backup rates work, see Shopify's guide: Backup rates.
Step 4: Save
Save your changes. Shipduo rates will now appear at checkout for that shipping zone.
Troubleshooting
- Rates not showing at checkout? Confirm your plan supports third-party rates (Shopify Grow annual, Advanced, or Plus), that ShipDuo (Rates provided by app) is added to the correct profile and zone, and that a backup rate is configured.
- Zone doesn't cover your customers? Make sure the shipping zone includes the regions you ship to (e.g., United States).
