How to Add a Package in Shipduo

Saving your packages in Shipduo makes shipping faster and more accurate. Once your packages are set up, Shipduo can automatically assign the most efficient, lowest-cost package based on your shipment's dimensions — so you don't re-enter sizes every time you book, and your checkout rates come out more accurate.
In short, packages help in two big ways: easier booking and a more accurate checkout experience.
The Packages page has three tabs, each for a different type of saved item:

  • Package — boxes (for small parcel)
  • Pallet — reusable pallets (for LTL freight)
  • Shipment Spec — a saved, ready-to-use shipment configuration (one or more pallets with full details)

To get there, open Packages from the left menu.

Step 1: Add a Package (Box)

Use this for the boxes you ship small parcels in.

  1. On the Package tab, click Add Package.
  2. Enter a Name (e.g., "Small Box").
  3. Enter the Length, Width, and Height, and choose the Unit (inch).
  4. Enter the package Weight and Weight Unit (the box's own weight).
  5. Enter the Capacity and Capacity Weight Unit (the maximum weight the box can hold).
  6. Click Save.

Your saved packages appear as cards showing their Dimensions, Capacity, and Weight.

Step 2: Add a Pallet

Use this for the pallets you ship LTL freight on.

  1. Switch to the Pallet tab and click Add Pallet.
  2. Enter a Name (e.g., "standard").
  3. Enter the Length, Width, Height, and Unit.
  4. Optionally set a Height Limit and its unit (the maximum stack height).
  5. Enter the Weight and Weight Unit (the pallet's own weight).
  6. Enter the Capacity and Capacity Weight Unit (the maximum weight it can carry).
  7. Click Save.

Step 3: Add a Shipment Spec

A Shipment Spec is a complete, reusable shipment setup — perfect for products you ship the same way every time. Each spec can include one or more pallets with full freight details.

  1. Switch to the Shipment Spec tab and click Add Spec.
  2. Enter a Name (e.g., "Drone").
  3. For Pallet 1, set the Quantity, then enter Length, Width, Height, and Weight.
  4. Add NMFC and NMFC Sub if you have them, and set the freight Class (click Change for a suggestion based on dimensions and weight).
  5. Toggle Hazardous Materials on if it applies.
  6. Click Add more to include additional pallets in the same spec.
  7. Click Save.

Saved specs appear as cards showing each pallet's quantity, dimensions, and weight.

How Packages Help You

  • Smart default selection: Shipduo matches your shipment to the most efficient, cheapest package automatically based on its dimensions.
  • Faster booking: no need to re-type sizes and weights — just pick a saved package, pallet, or spec.
  • More accurate checkout: when packages are set up, the rates shown at checkout reflect real package data, so customers are quoted the right price.

💡 Tip: Set up packages for every box, pallet, and recurring product you ship. The more complete your packages, the better Shipduo's automatic package selection and checkout accuracy.

Troubleshooting

  • Package not showing as an option when booking? Make sure you saved it under the correct tab (Package vs. Pallet vs. Shipment Spec) and that all required fields were filled in.
  • Checkout rates seem off? Confirm your package dimensions, weight, and capacity are accurate — these drive the rate calculation.
