How to Book a Manual Shipment on Shipduo
Manual booking lets you create a shipment from scratch — no order import required. It's the right choice for one-off shipments, freight quotes you want to turn into a booking, or any shipment that didn't come in through Shopify or email integration.
This article walks through booking an LTL freight shipment step by step. (You can also choose Small Parcel, which uses a similar but shorter form.)
Step 1: Start a New Shipment
- From the left menu, go to Shipments.
- Click Create Shipment in the top-right corner.
- Choose LTL (or Small Parcel) from the dropdown.
Step 2: Choose Your Role
At the top of the form, select who you are on this shipment under I am the:
- Shipper — you are the sender of the goods.
- Consignee — you are the receiver of the goods.
- Third Party — you are arranging the shipment on behalf of another party.
Step 3: Enter Pickup and Destination
Fill in both the Pickup and Destination panels.
Pickup
- Set the Date and the Pickup Start / Pickup End window.
- Use Search Address/Company Name to find a saved address, or enter it manually: Address Line 1, City, State, Country, and Zip.
Destination
- Set the Delivery Start / Delivery End window.
- Enter the destination address the same way.
Tip: On manual shipments, residential addresses aren't detected automatically — flag them yourself in Step 5 to avoid carrier re-bills. See How Residential Address Detection Works.
Step 4: Add Your Items
In the Items section, describe what you're shipping. Each handling unit (e.g., Pallet 1) has its own card.
- Optionally click Inventory to pull from saved items, and check Stackable or Hazardous Materials if they apply.
- Choose the Handling Unit (Pallet, etc.) and number of Piece(s).
- Enter Length, Width, and Height, and confirm the unit (inch).
- Enter the Weight and unit (Pounds).
- Add NMFC Items / NMFC Sub if you have them, and set the freight Class.
- Add a Description of the goods.
- Use Duplicate to copy the item, or Add an item for additional handling units.
Tip: Not sure of your freight class? Enter dimensions and weight, then click Change next to Class for a suggestion based on density.
Step 5: Additional Services and Protection
Use the Additional Services panel to add any accessorials the shipment needs:
- Pickup: construction site, limited access, residential, lift gate required, inside pickup.
- Delivery: construction site, must notify consignee, appointment required, residential, inside delivery, lift gate required, protective from cold, over dimension/excessive length, limited access, must deliver by date.
- Order: excessive length.
In the Shipping Protection panel, choose Yes, I do want Protection to add coverage, or No to skip it. See How Our Shipment Protection Works for details.
💡 Tip: Accessorials affect your rate. Selecting the right ones up front keeps your quote accurate and avoids surprise charges later.
Step 6: Save, Compare Rates, and Book
- Click Save & Continue.
- On the Here are your carrier options screen, review the available rates.
- Use Sort by → All / Fastest / Cheapest to order the results, and switch between the tabs at the top to see rates from each source — Shipduo's negotiated accounts and any of your own connected accounts (shown as (Your Rates)).
- Look for the Best price and Fastest badges to quickly spot the right option, then select a carrier card.
- Click Complete for $[amount] to book the shipment and generate your label or BOL.
Tip: This rate-selection step is the main thing you'll do when shipping orders from your Shopify store (or other imported orders). Because the address and item details are already pulled in from the order, you usually skip straight to picking the best rate here.
Troubleshooting
- Can't continue past a step? Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*). Make sure address, dimensions, weight, and class are all filled in.
- No rates returned? Double-check your ZIP codes, weight, dimensions, and freight class — incomplete details can stop carriers from quoting.
- Rate looks off? Confirm your accessorials and residential flags match the real shipment.
